The Three Aspects of Redemption
Romans 8:23 "And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our sonship, the redemption of our body."
Romans 6:6 "Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be annulled, that we should no longer serve sin."
Philippians 3:21 "Who will transfigure the body of our humiliation to be conformed to the body of His glory, according to His operation by which He is able even to subject all things to Himself."
Redemption Aspects |
Being Brought Back to God |
Termination |
Replacement |
---|---|---|---|
Reason |
People have strayed from God and need to be brought back |
The natural, fleshly life needs to be terminated |
Need for new life elements to replace the old creation |
Explanation |
When we enjoy Christ as our righteousness and sanctification, we are brought back to God |
Christ dwelling in us supplies and nourishes us while terminating our old creation |
Christ replaces our old elements with Himself (new elements, new constitution) |
Examples |
When we are weak and sin, through confession and repentance we reconnect with God |
The work of the cross terminates everything natural, self-centered, worldly, and sinful |
Our body will be transfigured to be conformed to Christ's glorious body |
Application |
Continuously enjoying fellowship with God in daily life |
Accepting the judgment of the cross, letting Christ terminate our natural life |
Allowing Christ to work in us for gradual transformation |

Conclusion: These scriptures specifically show that:
- 1. "Being brought back to God" is the foundation of Christ's redemption, enabling us to be reconciled and draw near to God.
- 2. "Termination" occurs through being crucified with Christ, putting to death our old man, flesh, and lusts.
- 3. "Replacement" is an ongoing process of transformation, from salvation until the redemption of our body, ultimately being conformed to Christ's image.
